Terms of Use & Safety

These terms govern your use of the LineKeeper mobile app. By installing or using the app, you agree to them. The most important part is Section 4 — Industrial safety: the app can write to a running controller, and you remain responsible for what that does on the plant floor.

Last updated 7 August 2026.

1. The app and who provides it

LineKeeper ("the app") is a mobile tag browser, dashboard and operator panel for industrial controllers — Allen-Bradley CompactLogix and ControlLogix over EtherNet/IP, Siemens S7-300/400/1200/1500 over S7comm, and devices speaking Modbus TCP — published under the LineKeeper product name ("we", "us"). It connects your phone directly to a controller on your own network; it is not a control system and is not a substitute for the machine's designed HMI, safety system or PLC program.

2. License

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the app on Apple or Android devices you own or control, for your own professional use, subject to these terms. Downloads from the App Store are additionally subject to the Apple Standard EULA, and installs through Google Play to the Google Play Terms of Service. Where these terms and a store's terms conflict, the stricter provision applies. You may not reverse-engineer, resell or redistribute the app except as allowed by law.

3. Pricing, beta and in-app purchases

On iOS the app is a free download: the tag browser, dashboards and alarms are free, and writing values to a controller requires a one-time in-app purchase — there are no subscriptions. The Android version is in a free beta, including writing tags. Beta software may be incomplete, change, or be withdrawn without notice, and may contain defects.

4. Industrial safety — read this

The app can write values to a live controller. Changing a tag can start, stop, speed up, slow down or otherwise move real machinery, and can create hazards to people and equipment. You are solely responsible for the consequences of every value you write.

  • Only use the app if you are qualified to operate the equipment and are authorised to do so at that site.
  • Follow all site safety procedures, lockout/tagout, and applicable regulations. Never rely on the app for emergency stop, safety interlocks or any safety-related function — those must be handled by rated safety systems, never by a phone.
  • Confirm you are connected to the intended controller before writing, and that no one is in a hazardous area affected by the machine.
  • The app is intended for commissioning, troubleshooting, monitoring and temporary operation — not as the permanent primary control interface for a machine.

The app provides guardrails (write confirmation, type and range validation, hold-to-run release, a one-time responsibility notice) as a convenience. These do not reduce your responsibility, and you must not rely on them as safety measures.

5. Network and access

You are responsible for ensuring your phone is permitted on the network you connect it to, and that connecting to and reading or writing a controller complies with your organisation's policies. The app performs no cloud relay; connectivity depends entirely on your own network.

6. No warranty

The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of displayed values, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that displayed tag values are correct or current.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of production, downtime, equipment damage, data loss or profits, arising from your use of or inability to use the app. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.

8. Your responsibilities

You agree to use the app lawfully, to keep your device secure, and not to use the app to interfere with equipment you are not authorised to operate. You are responsible for backing up any machine profiles you value.

9. Changes and termination

We may update the app and these terms. Material changes will be reflected by the date above. We may suspend or end the beta or the license if you breach these terms. You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the operator's place of business, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights in your country of residence.
