Three checks before you ship anything

  1. Restart the terminal cleanly. Power off for 30 seconds, let it boot fully. A stuck popup or a frozen runtime looks exactly like dead touch — and costs nothing to rule out.
  2. Run the touch calibration. PanelView Plus terminals have a calibration routine in the terminal's configuration mode. If taps register but land wrong, this is very often the whole fix. If a region is completely dead, calibration won't resurrect it.
  3. Look at the glass edge-on. Bubbling, delamination, cracks or moisture under the surface point at the touch layer itself. Note where the dead zone is — if it's exactly the most-pressed button, it's wear, and it will not heal.

Fair questions

Touch works but lands in the wrong place — new panel?

Almost certainly not. That's the classic calibration-drift signature. Run the touch calibration routine from the terminal's configuration mode first; it's free and takes minutes. Wear in one heavily-used zone can also skew nearby touches — that one is a touch layer repair, still far cheaper than a panel.

Are ghost touches dangerous?

Treat them as more than an annoyance: a button that presses itself on a machine interface is a real operational risk. Take the panel's inputs out of service (many plants disable the screen's write functions or drop it to view-only) and get the touch layer repaired soon.
