Three checks before you ship anything

  1. Restart the terminal cleanly. Power off for 30 seconds, let it boot fully. A stuck popup or a frozen runtime looks exactly like dead touch — and costs nothing to rule out.
  2. Run the touch calibration. PanelView Plus terminals have a calibration routine in the terminal's configuration mode. If taps register but land wrong, this is very often the whole fix. If a region is completely dead, calibration won't resurrect it.
  3. Look at the glass edge-on. Bubbling, delamination, cracks or moisture under the surface point at the touch layer itself. Note where the dead zone is — if it's exactly the most-pressed button, it's wear, and it will not heal.

The PanelView display works but touch doesn't — is the panel dead?

Usually not. A working display with dead or erratic touch typically means the resistive touch layer or its controller has failed, or calibration has drifted — the HMI application and the communication to the PLC are often perfectly healthy. That distinction matters: a touch layer repair costs a few hundred dollars, a whole new panel plus a project rebuild costs thousands.

Can a PanelView touchscreen be recalibrated?

Yes. PanelView Plus terminals have a touch calibration routine reachable from the terminal's configuration mode.
